Security at a Casino

Casino

Basically, a casino is a building where people play games of chance. It comes with a restaurant, hotel, and a variety of other amenities. The majority of the casino’s income comes from gambling.

Despite the fact that casinos are legalized in many states, they have been found to have a negative effect on communities. These areas have lost productivity as a result of gambling addiction, and the cost of treating problem gamblers has had an adverse impact on the economy.

Some of the most popular casino games include roulette, baccarat, and blackjack. These games provide billions in profits to the casinos every year.

While there are some who argue that casinos can be beneficial, most of the research has shown that the social and economic effects of gambling are negative. Studies have shown that about five percent of casino patrons are addicted to the games they play.

Fortunately, there are specialized security departments at casinos that work closely to prevent crime. These departments employ video cameras to monitor casino games and patterns of behavior. The goal of the department is to keep the casino’s assets safe.

Traditionally, the casino’s physical security force patrols the casino and responds to calls for assistance. They also keep an eye on the employees and the patrons. Depending on the casino, there may be a separate specialized surveillance department, known as the ‘eye in the sky.’

In addition to keeping an eye on the people who are playing, the casino also uses technology to track the amounts that are being wagered. This technology is called ‘chip tracking’. The chips contain micro-circuits that enable the casino to monitor how much is being bet minute by minute.
